1. What does worship mean to you?
Short answer:  Since we were created to worship I believe the act of worship is the fulfillment of our purpose.
Long answer:  Worship is what consumes me... my thoughts and my life.  It's what makes me tic, so to speak.  Because the Lord has given me the privilege of worshipping Him and then made me able to approach Him boldly I can offer myself that living sacrifice Paul speaks of.  God created me to worship Him and, He also gave me a hunger, a passion to live for Him.  That's worship.. Living for Him!

2. What do you think is the result of worship and/or how can worship be displayed in your life?
There are so many responses I could have to this question but let me share just this one.

Last Christmas I was going through the Christmas story as I prepared for our Annual Concert.  I was reading Luke 1 and something struck a chord.  Here's these Angels appearing to shepherds and they are telling these shepherds that the Savior, who is Christ the Lord is born and where to find Him.  "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:  'Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!'”  So what do the shepherds do?  They go and worship the Savior.  Then later in the story the shepherds go about telling everyone what they saw and heard.

What little I know and understand about Angels is that they are described in Scripture as worshipping God, especially as revealed in Isaiah 6:3 and Revelation 4:8.   And, as I wrote earlier, God created man to worship Him. (Revelation 4:11)   In both of these examples the worshippers went out and told someone else about the Savior.  True worship results in a life that exhibits a passion to tell others about the Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

3. As a worship leader, what are some of your challenges?
Dealing with the changes on a worship team.  People come and go.  From one month to the next the worship ministry could have a large number of active volunteers and then shrink down to just me.  That's probably the most challenging for me, since it means working with musicians that are rotating in and out of the church.  I love it but, it is a challenge to keep things organized, get musicians to find their groove together and be prepared for events.

On a spiritual note, there is so much that a worship leader is responsible for before the Lord.  To have a pure heart that I should never 'bring strange fire' before Him, my witness and testimony.  What or who people see when they see me.  I want, more than anything that people would see the love and grace of God at work and believe that God is as much 'in love' with them as He is with me or anyone else that they view as a spiritual leader.  I want them to know Him and walk with Him in the truest sense of the word.  Staying close to Jesus is probably my greatest love and my greatest challenge.  So many things are vying for my attentions and affections that it is a must to remain in Christ and in His word in order to overcome.

4. What word of encouragement do you have to share?
Stay in fellowship and in the Word!  I know it sounds a little cliché but it's so true.  I went through a real rough time in my walk with the Lord and the hardest part was keeping faithful to fellowship and the Word.  The flesh is so fickle!  There were so many days I'd wake up and just want to stay in bed all day but, that would mean spiritual deterioration.  Keep your passion for Christ alive with fear and trembling.   That's what keeps us afloat as worship leaders and most of all as believers.

5. Can you share with us a recent song you are using in your congregation that has touched your heart and why?
About 4 months ago we started using "See His Love" by Tom Lockley.  The first time I heard it was on a YouTube video with Kim Walker and Jesus Culture.  There was just something about how it touched me that day, I had to share it with our congregation.  We worked on it for a few weeks and presented it for the first time during a communion service.  The first line opens with, "See His love nailed onto a cross."  Immediately, I'm moved.  Then in the chorus, "King of Heaven dying for me."  These lyrics help me remain focused on the reason I live.  Finally, the chorus reminds me that, "It is finished, He has done it, Death is beaten..."  His great love for me is the reason I believed in the first place some 29 years ago.  Oh, how I need to know that I am loved and the most awesome display of love is the cross.  Yes, "Eternity is won for us!"  Hallelujah!

See His Love
See His love nailed onto a cross
Perfect and blameless life given as sacrifice
See Him there all in the name of love
Broken yet glorious, all for the sake of us

This is Jesus in His glory
King of Heaven dying for me
It is finished, He has done it
Death is beaten, Heaven beckons me

Greater love no one could ever show
Mercy so undeserved, freedom I should not know
All my sin, all of my hidden shame
Died with Him on the cross, eternity won for us

Such love, such love
Such love is this for me
